(supporting electric motorcycles)
“To prepare for the journey, Rivian had to install
240 Level 2 chargers in roughly 140 locations
, spread about 110 miles apart over the 13 countries to cut down on range anxiety.” That’s not cheap... Wonder what the big wigs at Ford thought about this.
So, when will we see wind/solar-powered charge stations on the White Rim Trail?

Loved “Long Way Round” - looking forward to watching this.
Wonder how they’ll handle the The Darién Gap. Might be seeing a ferry at that point...

Wow, this is super cool. I’d love to see where the charging stations are in southern Chile in the Los Lagos region around Valdivia.

Definitely some super-remote areas along this route!

Taking a closer look at the map it looks like they went around the Atacama dessert by going east into Argentina before they got to Santiago. W hich now that I think about it, makes sense because they have some BANANAS traffic laws & bureaucracy going on in Santiago. When we lived in Chile we flew to Santiago instead of driving because it was going to be a whole fucking thing to take our car into Santiago.

It would have been cheaper for them to send a support truck with a portable generator.

Waaay cheaper, but the jokes made at their expense for that would’ve been too much to bear, apparently.
When your support trucks need support trucks...
What’s cool is that this infrastructure means that others with off-road EVs can take this trip in the future.
I’m sure they’re hoping
that this trip will earn enough “free” media
attention that the marketing dollars that would’ve alternately
gone to ad buys will still be well-used in the end.

HAH! You assume that the installed infrastructure will remain operable? I’d be surprised if it lasted 6 months.

Valid point... some will last, in the more populated areas, but the ones in the most remote places won’t have much of a chance.
